About Konstantin

Konstantin was born in Bulgaria and moved to Chicago in 1999 at the age of seven. He later settled in Buffalo Grove, where he finished middle school and attended Buffalo Grove High School. Growing up, he spent summers working with his father, a contractor, helping with home remodels and repairs. Realizing manual labor wasn’t for him, he asked his dad how to stay in the field without doing the physical work—his dad told him, “That’s what architects do.”

Inspired, Konstantin pursued architecture and earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2016. He began his career at Stantec (formerly VOA) and later joined Abacus, where he continues to grow professionally.

Outside of work, Konstantin loves to travel—Spain being a favorite—and enjoys concerts, music festivals, and exploring new restaurants with friends.

On his favorite project

"Favorite project I have worked on so far is the Ippolite Residence since it is my first residential project I have worked on. Residential architecture is what I’ve wanted to do since I got into the industry. Ideally, I will get to work on a residential project from start to finish at some point."

On relational architecture

"The relationship between form and function in architectural design is one of the first things we are taught in school but it does not stop there, the relationship between client and architect is just as important if not more. Architecture is all about relationships."
